I have always felt closer to animals
than to humans.
For me they are the essence of life
as it should be.
They express the joy of living, loyalty, love, even cruelty but never wickedness,
because they are innocent in their spirit.
They are my beautiful brothers.
And that is why I paint them.

I paint my objects trying to capture
their presence,
a way to assert their being part of the world with the right to be so.
I have never thought they are second class compared to us.
I have never believed that it was right,
or that it was really inevitable,
to take away their value, territory, feelings.
They have the same right,
which is that of life, to be in the world where they must be.
Exactly like us.
So I try with my painting, to tell their beauty, their looks towards an infinite savannah,
their expression that affirms their existence, or their presence in a magical forest.

The wild continent,”animal” par excellence,
has seduced me completely.
Where else in the world does nature express itself so powerfully and alive?
Where do you feel a surge of emotion in front of a sunset while the silhouette of a giraffe stands out against the circle of the setting sun?
Are there animals more iconic than those of Africa?
I couldn’t have chosen otherwise.
If every artist has a muse, mine is Africa with its animals.
Evanescence
The paint remains on the canvas as if struggling.
As if no longer certain it can remain.
It thins, surrenders to the light.
And the bodies of the animals approach the edges, dissolve.
As if suspended — between appearing and disappearing.
It’s a moment.
The moment before the end.
And perhaps, also,a last gesture.
A last attemptto hold them back.
Before they vanishcompletely.
